Delhi is India's undisputed wholesale capital. Chandni Chowk alone contains over 15,000 shops packed into narrow galis that have operated continuously since the Mughal era. Sadar Bazaar handles the bulk of North India's household goods distribution. Karol Bagh, Lajpat Nagar, and Nehru Place each anchor massive trade networks that stretch across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan. The common thread across all these markets? Credit. Thousands of transactions happen every day on trust - a retailer from Meerut picks up goods worth ₹2 lakh, promises to pay in 30 days, and the wholesale shopkeeper scribbles the amount in a register.

This credit-heavy model creates an accounting nightmare. A mid-size Chandni Chowk wholesaler might have 200 to 400 active party accounts at any time, with payments trickling in via NEFT, RTGS, cheque, and increasingly UPI. Tracking who owes what, which payments have arrived, and which invoices are overdue is a full-time job - one that many shopkeepers handle with a stack of loose papers and a sharp memory. When disputes arise, and they do regularly, there is no reliable paper trail.

The Delhi government's GST enforcement has added another layer. Wholesale markets saw a sharp increase in compliance notices in 2023 and 2024, with the Delhi VAT department conducting surprise inspections in Sadar Bazaar and Bhagirath Palace. For traders who have operated on informal systems for decades, the need for organized digital records has become urgent - not optional.
